Leon Lewis-Nicol uses music to connect and inspire
03.27.2025
The first time I saw jazz pianist Leon Lewis-Nicol perform was at the Rose Bowl Tavern. After the first set, Lewis-Nicol approached me to introduce himself and thank me for coming out to support him and his trio. In fact, he did the same thing with every other person in the room. Although I’d come by myself, his gesture made me feel welcome, and like everyone else was welcome, too. As I’ve now learned, the forces that inspired him to do this — his deep ties to his West African heritage, a strong commitment to the Christian faith, and a burning desire to connect others through music — are the catalyst behind nearly everything he does.
